Intro:
Hello Everyone! Welcome to The Game of Life Podcast; I am Alexandria Burek and I am your host.
Thank you for picking my show out of the millions to choose from; I am honored and excited to share this time with you!
Today I have selected a powerful book to share with you guys: Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Before I get into the 3 takeaways I have for you, I want to first give you guys a little personal update.
Personal Update:
The date happened; it was better than I could have hoped. We have another on the books. I. Can’t. Wait. – I noticed something different about the way I am approaching this relationship; I am genuinely proud of the way I am conducting myself, and I am amazed by him as well, to say that he has undergone a transformation of his own would be an understatement, he is a new and improved man and I am about it–if nothing else, stay tuned for this little love story here.
The real estate world is picking back up; I am super excited to host the InvestHER Women's Real Estate Group in Milwaukee this month–the turnout is promising and the topics are value packed. Racine County posted their newest foreclosures and I am optimistic; I have a few potential partners lined up: one for fix and flip, one for buy and hold, one for land contracts, and who knows who else I might rope into this. As we move into the holiday season, I stand by the mantra “The more the merrier.”
Quick update on the redzone washer–it died. So. Guess who got a new washer and dryer delivered today?! ME! Guess who got these items at a huge discount?! ME! Guess who did not let the delivery guy get out of doing the install?! ME! He picked the wrong woman to say “we can’t install it” to.
As for the W2 world, I have a couple irons in the fire I am optimistic about; but even better than that, a particular client of mine that I have been working with for the last 14 months is likely going to be moving forward–HECK YES. This will be amazing; literally will improve my income by 50%. This is why you never give up. This is why you do not quit. This is just the beginning.
Food For Thought:
Book: Think and Grow Rich
Author: Napoleon Hill
How I found it: This was a combo, I had to have seen it recommended multiple times on instagram by a handful of influencers I trust, but what really sealed the deal, was talking to my good friend who is a leading Mindset Coach and Master Manifester.
Who it’s for:
-Anyone who is vigorously pursuing success in their lives and careers
-Anyone who admires and wants to learn from the great visionaries and leaders of the twentieth century history (Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Charles Schwab and so on)
Quote to kick us off: A quitter never wins and a winner never quits
I selected three takeaways for you today–it was very difficult to choose because of all the amazing information packed into this book. The first takeaway is a very practical exercise you can implement today.
Napoleon Hill calls this technique, Transmuting Desires into Financial Equivalent. This is a 7 step process and it must be repeated consistently.
- Decide on the exact amount of money you desire (2.24M / year)
- Determine what you will give to get it (Housing and Benefits; 10% to other Charity; Establish Duffle of Love Foundation)
- Establish a date in which you want this money by (February 24, 2026 — 34th Birthday)
- Create a definite plan and start regardless of whether you are ready or not
- Write out your plan
- Read your plan out loud twice a day, morning and night.
- By my 34th Birthday, February 24th, 2026, I will earn 2.24M annually, which will come to me in various amounts from time to time during the interim. In return for this money I will provide safe and clean housing to all of my tenants and exceptional benefits to all of those who work for the organizations I partner with. I believe this money is already in my possession. My faith is so strong that I can now see this money before my eyes. I can touch it with my hands. It is now awaiting transfer to me in the proportion that I deliver the services.
- As you read, see yourself as already in possession of the money.
You can also do this with love, fitness, whatever it is you desire. The key is again, consistency and specificity.
The second takeaway I have selected for you are what the author refers to as the Six Basic Fears (Poverty, Criticism, Ill Health, Loss of Love, Old Age, and Death). As you read about the six fears, you will draw the conclusion that fear cannot exist without worry. Worry is a state of mind. Your mind is in a state of worry when you are indecisive. In order to concur your fears, you must kill the habit of worry. In order to kill the habit of worry you must be decisive.
The antidote to fears sound simple, but you must make a blanket decision from this moment forward that nothing life has to offer is worth the price of worry. You are in control of your mind. You choose what you think. Eliminate worry from this day forward. This will raise your vibration and bring good into your life.
Think about which of these fears strikes a cord with you.
Poverty, Criticism, Ill Health, Loss of Love, Old Age, and Death.
Now, let's talk about how to combat these fears and win at life.
-Poverty: Determine what you need to live; list all the potential ways you could earn that money, make a plan, and take MASSIVE action. Whatever you do, don’t quit.
-Criticism: Stop concerning yourself with what other people think, do or say about
you, your life, your decisions. That is none of your business. At the end of your life, you will be left to answer to you. No one will care. Only you will know if you ACTUALLY went for it.
-Ill Health: Create habits and systems that make being healthy, inevitable,
unfailable. Take your vitamins. Do your workouts. Go for walks. Make healthy product selections. Prioritize getting good sleep. Meal prep. Dial in your macros.
-Loss of Love: Love yourself. Reprogram your brain. Put good out in the world and the world will send you love.
-Old Age: Reframe it. Radically accept old age. Choose to see it as a blessing that you were able to live so long and had the chance to grow old. Celebrate the wisdom, self-control, and understanding that comes with age.
-Death: Accept that death is an inescapable event. You have no control over
when or how unless you are choosing suicide (please do not, I have been there
and I can honestly say, everyday I am so thankful I did not act on those impulses and thoughts). Replace your fear of death with gratitude for life.
I am going to share with you a couple of my favorite tools to combat worry or rumination. First is an exercise I learned from a therapist and a hypnosis: choose not to think about something by mentally placing it somewhere else.
First is to throw that thought in a dumpster and vow to never think about it again. I was having some obsessive, intrusive thought, and I decided I was over it. I pictured myself walking across the street, opening up a dumpster, and placing that unhelpful thought in that dumpster. I said I am done thinking about this. And that was that.
Second is to put that thought on a shelf until a designated time to revisit it, if it is something you need to come back to.
The last one is more if you are in a real serious mental state of distress, and you need to snap out of it. I forgot about this until I recently heard it on a podcast. What you do is tune into your senses, what are 3 things you can see, what are 2 things you can feel, what is 1 thing you can smell. This will bring you out of your head and into the present.
The last, and certainly not least, are what the author calls Famous Alibis. To introduce this topic I am going to read a passage from the book, “ People who do not succeed have one distinguishing trait in common… how many of these alibis, if any, are your own property.”
The author has 55, which I am tempted to read, but I am afraid I would run out of breath or you would stop listening due to boredom. Instead I’ve handpicked a few I feel are most common.
If only I had money
If only I had time
If only I were younger
If only I were not so fat
If only I could just get a break
If only I could just get out of debt
If only people would listen to me
If only I hadn’t failed
If only I had a good education
And the list goes on… fill in the blank. What is your alibi?
The author quotes Elbert Hubbard, "It's always been a mystery to me, why people spend so much time deliberately fooling themselves by creating alibis to cover their weakness. If used differently, this same time would be sufficient to cure the weakness, then no alibis would be needed.”
Let me repeat that: If the same time were used differently, the time would be sufficient to cure the weakness and achieve success.
What I have experienced in the last 2.5-3 years is exactly that.
